The astonishing discovery of nearly 2,000 corpses under the marketplace of the little town of Marienburg in Poland proved to be the start of a long political dispute. The debate was over where the bodies should be laid to rest. Most of them were the mortal remains of German civilians who died during the final days of World War Two. The issue became very political. A decision has now finally been made. They are to be buried in Sczcecin, near the Polish-German border.
